6th Annual Buckthorn Blitz Planned for UNH

Published: Oct 9, 2017

For the 6th year in a row, the UNH Office of Woodlands & Natural Areas is teaming up with the Stewardship Network: New England to sponsor the Buckthorn Blitz, a volunteer event to remove invasives plants from College Woods in Durham, NH. Volunteers, UNH clubs and groups are all welcome on Friday, Oct. 27, 2017 from 2 - 4 pm.

This special forest - valued by both students and outdoor enthusiasts around the Seacoast - is being overrun with glossy buckthorn, a non-native invasive shrub that crowds out native plants. We’ll be hand-pulling buckthorn to help improve the health of College Woods. Come prepared with a water bottle, long sleeve shirt and pants and sturdy shoes.  We'll provide gloves and snacks.  Groups and Clubs Welcome!
